Want to relive your spelling-bee glory days?

Do you have what it takes?

WE KNOW what you’re thinking: Do they really think anyone wants to repeat the childhood trauma of standing in front of a room full of people and attempting to spell words like ‘flibbertigibbet’ or ‘abecedarian’? And our answer would be, What if booze is involved?

The Literacy Action of Central Arkansas’ 2018 Adult Team Spelling Bee, aka The Bee, is coming to the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub in Little Rock this month where 10 teams of three (plus an alternate) will compete for glory and a sweet trophy created by the Innovation Hub. It’s all for a good cause, too: All proceeds from The Bee will benefit adults and families working to improve their reading and English language skills.

Team entry is $125 and space is limited. But you can still get in on the fun as a spectator with audience spell-offs between The Bee’s official rounds. General admission is $20 and includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and two drink vouchers for beer, wine or the event’s signature cocktail, The Boozy Bee.

But if you want a shot at the title, you better start brushing up on your vocabulary list now. Flex your mental muscles with this word search of winning words from the last 20 years of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The Literacy Action of Central Arkansas’ 2018 Adult Team Spelling Bee will be held Sept. 21 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub. Visit literacyactionar.org for more information.
