THERE’S A lot to look forward to in The Natural State when October rolls around: the arrival of cooler climes, Halloween and, of course, the annual Arkansas Paranormal Expo at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History. In the spooky spirit of the season, why not take a deeper look at what to expect this month by doing a tarot card reading for Arkansas as a whole?
Made up of 78 cards—broken up into 22 “major arcana” cards and four suits of 14 “minor arcana” cards each—the tarot can be utilized in a variety of configurations to stir the mind and encourage introspection. In this four-card clarity spread, the first card (top) reveals the dominating theme of the reading, while the following three indicate what factors will be influential or challenging.
With the appearance of The World, one of the tarot’s 22 major arcana cards, we can expect good things this month—if we allow them. This card indicates a sense of wholeness and suggests that October will be full of harmony and contentment.
Three of Pentacles
The Three of Pentacles tells us that in order to reach the state of contentment The World alludes to, we’ll have to be focused and determined. And just like climbing Little Rock’s Pinnacle Mountain, it’ll also take a bit of effort. But this card also represents teamwork, indicating that we’re all in this together.
How fitting that we’d draw The Empress—a card closely tied to nature and the Earth—in a reading about The Natural State. Perhaps getting outside and enjoying the state’s lovely fall foliage will bring us that sense of wholeness? We think so.
Nine of Cups
Always a welcome card, the Nine of Cups speaks of worries washed away like so many leaves caught in the current of the mighty Arkansas River. Like The World, this card represents harmony, as well as bliss. Doesn’t get much better than that.
The eighth annual Arkansas Paranormal Expo will be held Oct. 6-7 at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, where you can expect to learn about everything from tarot readings to ghost hunting to UFOs. Visit arkansasparanormalexpo.com for more information.
