If you’re anything like us, you passed it a million times before you finally thought to stop, because there’s nothing especially flashy about Scoop Dog on J.F.K. in North Little Rock. It’s small, kinda quaint, kinda kitschy, with hand-painted planks detailing a litany of flavor options—a walk-up-slash-drive-thru with no indoor seating. Also, it’s cash-only. But this family-owned scoop shop, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, serves what we feel pretty confident in saying is the best custard in the state. A bold claim, to be sure—and rest assured, Scoop Dog is far from diet friendly—but if you’ve sampled a German-chocolate concrete or the quasi-off-the-menu birthday-cake concrete (pictured), there can be no doubt: There’s nothing better.
